Spotlight On Safety: Understanding And Mitigating Low-Altitude Hazards

In this month’s Spotlight on Safety, HAI Senior Director of Safety Chris Hill discusses the critical need for helicopter pilots to better mitigate low-altitude hazards such as wires. A survivor of a wire-strike accident himself, Hill explains how human factors and visual illusions can fool the eye and lead to disaster. He recommends training that pilots can pursue to heighten their awareness and sharpen their flying skills in the wire-and-obstruction environment.
