ITC helicopter crews to inspect power lines across Michigan
(MLive.com) – Starting Sep. 9, helicopter crews from Novi-based ITC will conduct aerial inspections of high-voltage transmission lines and structures across the state. The inspections are scheduled to run through October.

ICG helicopter crashes during attempted emergency water landing
(NDTV) – An Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopter went down Sep. 2 during an emergency landing while approaching a vessel in the Arabian Sea. Two crew members died in the accident and a third sustained injuries.

When it comes to safe runway operations, training, education, and experience matter. The FAA’s Helicopter Flying Handbook notes that accident rates decrease by nearly 50% once a pilot obtains 100 hours and continue to decrease until the 1,000-hour level. Despite these trends, the helicopter accident rate is still 30% higher than the rate for fixed-wing aircraft.
