Proposed FAA AD: Leonardo AW169

The FAA is seeking comments on this proposed airworthiness directive (AD) through Aug. 15. It would supersede AD 2024-09-02, issued May 21, 2024. The proposed AD would retain the actions of the existing AD while requiring the replacement of certain forward-float and aft-float assemblies within 24 months or during the next maintenance check.

ATSB final report: Robinson R66, Hawks Nest, New South Wales, Oct. 26, 2023

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has determined that the helicopter rapidly entered a low‑g condition due to turbulence and the pilot’s response to it, inducing an uncommanded right roll. Investigators also found that the asymmetric horizontal stabilizer design in the Robinson R22, R44, and R66 contributed to the right-roll rate and the risk of an in‑flight breakup.
