(AIN) – The US Senate unanimously approved the Rotorcraft Operations Transparency and Oversight Reform (ROTOR) Act on Dec. 17. The ROTOR Act would strengthen oversight of military helicopter and jet routes near US commercial airports. It would also mandate all aircraft currently required to have ADS-B Out to equip with ADS-B In by 2031, and to operate those features.

(The Air Current) – The Jan. 29 midair crash involving a military helicopter and a regional passenger jet near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (KDCA) was the result of a collapse of the protections designed to keep aviation safe—and the institutions that design and maintain them.
