Deadline TODAY: Submit VAI’s updated comments on FAA’s Part 108 drone rule

Help inform the FAA’s final rulemaking for beyond visual line of sight drone operations.

Today, Feb. 11, is the deadline to submit VAI’s updated comments to the FAA about proposed rules for Part 108 beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone operations in the United States.

This comment round focuses on electronic conspicuity devices, meaning air-to-air deconfliction devices used by manned aviation to enable electronic visibility. VAI’s response highlights available technologies, urges appropriate standards for these devices, and highlights necessities for scaled utilization. The responses to these questions will drive final rulemaking around critical concepts like right-of-way and detect-and-avoid capabilities.

VAI is urging the FAA to require practical, interoperable electronic conspicuity with redundant, overlapping detection and alerting, backed by clear, enforceable performance standards at entry into service. The rule must not rely on best-case assumptions or uneven equipage. Operators need a framework that drives reliable electronic visibility and layered detect-and-avoid capabilities from day one.

The FAA needs to hear from you directly. Please submit VAI’s comments under your name and company today. The deadline is 11:59 pm eastern (UTC-5) tonight.
