SHA handbook details helicopter techniques for mountain ops The Swiss Helicopter Association has released its Mountain Flying Handbook. The safety resource includes an in-depth look into the challenges of mountain flying, including flight preparation, helicopter performance metrics, takeoffs and landings, and hazard management in high-altitude environments. “The handbook is more than just a guide—it’s a living, accessible resource that’s continuously updated to reflect the latest industry insights,” says Simon Wittinger, author of the handbook. The publication also contains case studies from instructors, pilots, and safety specialists in mountain operations. It covers topics that include how to: • recognize limits and avoid dangerous situations • make informed decisions • respond to emergencies and accidents • use technology in interacting with natural environments.
