USHST offers support for operators involved in DC accident recovery

The organization plans to formally launch a new Peer Pilot Program at VERTICON 2025 in Dallas, Texas.

“Considering the recent tragedy involving a midair collision between AA 5342 and a U.S. Army Black Hawk, the U. S Helicopter Safety Team is offering immediate support to the helicopter first responders involved in the Potomac River search, rescue, and recovery efforts,” said Chris Baur, chairman of the U.S. Helicopter Safety Team Foundation. “From my own firsthand experience as a veteran search and rescue pilot, I understand the impact and sacrifices helicopter pilots and crew members face.”

Launching at Vertical Aviation International’s VERTICON 2025, the USHST Peer Pilot Program (PPP) is a volunteer-based initiative that provides helicopter pilots facing personal or professional challenges with the opportunity to speak confidentially with an industry peer. This program offers anonymous, caring support from those who understand the unique pressures of the aviation industry—pilots. The program is completely confidential and free of charge.
