Delivering packages. Transporting lifesaving blood and medicine to an accident scene. Capturing data on a forest fire or dropping water on hot spots. Inspecting utilities in remote locations. These are just some of the valuable services that commercial unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operators could provide if they could fly their drones farther than they can see them. The FAA’s impending Part 108 regulation will standardize beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations for commercial drones. Currently, under Part 107, operators must keep their drones in sight unless they obtain a special waiver for BVLOS. Part 108 will remove that limitation and detail new technology requirements such as detect-and-avoid systems and updated pilot training, certification standards, and operating rules. As the industry waits for the new regulations, VAI is bringing together several leading commercial drone operators to talk about the rule, which will be critical to building scaled operations. At our Jun. 26 VAI Webinar, at 2:00 pm eastern time (UTC-4), we’ll take a deep dive into these operators’ use cases. At the webinar, you’ll learn about what’s included in Part 108 and how the regulation will open up a new level of UAS operations in the United States. VAI Western US Regional Representative Chuck Street will moderate a panel of diverse operators and experts who will share how the UAS industry will expand with BVLOS, and what that means for the people they serve. Our participants: • Omer Bar-Yohay, Cofounder and CEO, Datablanket • Mark Blanks, Head of Global Flight Operations, Standards, and Regulatory Affairs, Wing • Kellen Kirk, Manager of UAS and Fixed-Wing Operations, Pacific Gas and Electric • Peter Sachs, Head of Airspace Integration Strategy, Zipline. In this webinar, you’ll learn: • What Part 108 will entail • The requirements for meeting Part 108 • How operators will use UASs beyond the visual line of sight • How Part 108 will ensure safety between manned and unmanned aircraft • And more. Register today for this free, one-hour webinar, Thursday, Jun. 26, at 2 pm eastern (UTC-4), to learn about UAS BVLOS regulations and how operators will be able to expand their services with these new rules.
