VAI Daily Jan. 14, 2026 USCG crew rescues stranded surfer near Puerto Rico (VIDEO) A US Coast Guard (USCG) Sikorsky MH-60 Jayhawk crew assisted with a multiagency effort to hoist the surfer from rocks near Surfer’s Beach Jan. 9 in Aguadilla. VAI Daily Jan. 14, 2026 NTSB preliminary report: Enstrom F28 and Enstrom 280C, Hammonton, New Jersey, Dec. 28, 2025 The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) preliminary report indicates that the helicopters were flying in tandem prior to the midair collision. They were slightly staggered and flying on a similar heading before converging and colliding, according to surveillance video. Both private pilots died in the accident. VAI Daily Jan. 13, 2026 US Wildland Fire Service Phase 3 advances under DOI The US Department of Interior (DOI) is moving ahead with Phase 3, which marks the next step in establishing the US Wildland Fire Service but does not transfer personnel or assets from the US Forest Service. The US Senate Committee on Appropriations is calling for a feasibility study to evaluate the consolidation.
