(NBC News) – As many people are still reeling from the damages caused by Hurricane Helene, US Army National Guard helicopter crews are delivering relief to some communities.

This FAA airworthiness directive (AD) requires repetitive detailed visual inspections of certain tail-rotor damper-bracket assemblies for corrosion and cracks and, depending on the results, taking corrective action. The AD, which also prohibits installing an affected tail-rotor damper-bracket assembly unless it is new, becomes effective Nov. 12, 2024.

This FAA airworthiness directive (AD), which supersedes AD 2021-22-05, reduces the applicability to include helicopters with only affected part-numbered collective torque-tube assemblies, reduces the inspection intervals, and removes the previously approved terminating action. It takes effect Nov. 12, 2024.

(Disney Dining) – Quick thinking is being cited as saving the crew and passengers after an air tour helicopter pilot noticed a fuel leak while conducting a procedure known as the “Dumbo Drop.” The pilot maneuvered the helicopter away from Disneyland Park crowds to conduct an emergency landing at a designated area outside the park in Anaheim, California.

(Hoodline) – A Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) helicopter crew hoisted an injured hiker Oct. 5 from the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles, California.
