Tips and resources to help helicopter pilots avoid bird strikes

(SKYbrary) – The FAA’s risk mitigation strategies include learning about the local bird population, reducing airspeed when practical, increasing altitude, and wearing protective equipment such as a helmet and visor. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s Community Network advises pilots to avoid wetlands and other sites with increased bird activity, use strobe or landing lights, and land as soon as possible after a bird strike, among other recommendations.
